About

Hello all! My name is Denise, and welcome to my blog!

I was born and raised in Wales, in the city of Newport, and from the beginning of time I’ve always been interested in Art. My interests peeked when I was first introduced to the world of comic books, I just couldn’t get enough of the imagination and the creation that was put into every page. It was then, when I first put pencil to paper that I knew, I wanted to be an Artist.

I went to St. Josephs High School and did GCSE’s in Fine Art for 3 years, this gave me the chance to change my style, my views upon art itself, and also to be more creative and inventive with my ideas. I also did some work experience in the art industry at Jo Jo’s Collectives, it was a t-shirt printing place at the time, and I really enjoyed getting messy and learned the silk screen printing process, this heightened my interests further into the Arts.

After my GCSE’s I did a GNVQ course in business for a year and it was interesting but it wasn’t for me, I also did work experience in Lloyds TSB, however I passed with a Merit.

After my GNVQ I went onto A Levels so that I could carry on with Fine Art for 2 years, and those 2 years taught me a lot. It was a challenging period in my life, but I enjoyed every moment. I passed my Fine Art with a B grade, and went on to higher education in university.

When I finished high school I applied to do an AMD (Art, Media, and Design) Foundation Course at the University of Wales Newport for a year, and really enjoyed it. This gave me the chance to play, have fun and break the boundaries of restriction that I encountered many of times in high school, there I was introduced to the saying ‘There is no right, and there is no wrong’. I was given weekly projects in Architecture, Photography, Animation, Fine Art, Graphic Design, and Fashion. However even though I really enjoyed Fine Art and was good at it, I wanted a change and did Graphic Design in my foundation course, I have loved it ever since. I passed AMD Foundation with a Merit.

After AMD Foundation I went on to study a BA HONS in Graphic Design which I have passed with a 2:1. With the experience I have learnt from this degree I’m now very open minded, fun, creative and all kinds of different work influence me. The imagination is the key of creativity. I believe in the fun and simplistic side of design, also I’m interested in the art of Bookmaking, digital design, and Typography. I will use this blog to explore the many elements and developments that construct the Design world, so that I may improve my understanding and development for my work. I am also an Adobe Certified Associate in Photoshop CS5.

I have recently been accepted to do a MA Graphic Communication course at The University of South Wales, which I shall be starting in September 2013.

I’m also a freelancer Graphic Designer, so if you interested in my work, feel free to contact me.
