Curiosities

1. Artificial Intelligence

A.I has always facinated me ever since I watched ‘Forbidden Planet’, ‘Batteries not included’ and also obsessed with ‘Transformers’ (the 1984 cartoon series of course) when I was a child and saw them on TV for the first time, it was love at first sight. However I’m curious as to how some machines and robots, can act and think on there own free will. It is a scarey, but it is also exciting notion. who knows, perhaps in the future we might develop this aspect further into the generations to come. For instance ASIMO the robot that was created by Honda, however it can only perform simple tasks such as wave, carry objects, etc. Maybe we can develop this, and make new discoveries and revelations. Who knows what the future has in store for humans, and machines.

2. Space

it’s always been a mystery to me that the universe was created billions and billions of years ago, and inside the black void that is space, there’s are new stars being born, and new planets, moons, galaxy’s being discovered every day. It hold’s many questions and answers as to how we came to be a part of the grand design, and also are we the only life forms in this world? who knows?

3. Dinosaurs

These creatures have always fascinated me ever since I was a child. The first time I ever saw one was when I watched Jurassic Park, and it has peeked my interest ever since. There is also a new program on TV called Dinosaur Planet, and it has re-kindled my love for the prehistoric creatures that travelled around our world billions of years ago. However there are still dinosaurs amongst us such as alligators, crocodiles, lizards. Ect. There are myths of dinosaurs too such as ‘The Lockness Monster’ or the famous ‘Godzilla’. Apparently scientists have found new breeds of dinosaurs bigger than the larger T-Rex, and also strange dinosaurs that have feathers. This has therefore lead scientist know how the birds of the sky developed their feathers, therefore making them the master of flight. I also read an article in the science magazine called ‘Focus’ and scientist has found DNA of a woolly mammoth, however they are unsure of whether or not to bring it back into existence. I believe that it would be cool to bring back the woolly mammoth, but I don’t think that it will survive for long in the concrete jungle. This world is very different from the pre-historic age, and therefore it’ll be cruel to bring back such a fascinating creature.

heres a clip (enjoy ;))

4. King Kong V Godzilla?

it is the ultimate question. Who would win?

5.  Lemarchand’s Box

I’ve always been curious about the Lemarchands’s box from my favourite horror film of all time ‘Hellraiser’. A Lemarchand box is a mystical/mechanical device that acts as a door — or a key to a door — to another dimension or plane of existence. The solution of the puzzle creates a bridge through which beings may travel in either direction across this “Schism”. The inhabitants of these other realms may seem demonic to humans.

6. The Ocarina

The ocarina is an ancient flute-like wind instrument. Variations do exist, but a typical ocarina is an enclosed space with four to twelve finger holes and a mouthpiece that projects from the body. It is often ceramic, but other materials may also be used, such as plastic, wood, glass, clay, and metal.

you can also get an app on the iphone that allows you to play the ocarina just by blowing on the sound piece.

7. Dreams

I find dreams to be most influential, specially towards my work. It plays a key roll within my work, because it is the imagination at it’s best. However there are also night terrors too, they can be some-what inspiring, for example H.R.Giger he uses his night terrors and turns them into reality, like the notorious film Alien. Though I do wonder why we get dreams, strange as it sounds even animals too.

8. Imagination

It is the key of creativity, if we didn’t have imagination the human race wouldn’t be in the position that we are in now. It gives us a window of what other people imagine such as stories, paintings, photos ect. and it inspires us to grow and use our imagination for new ideas. Take Da Vinci for example, if it weren’t for his inventions we wouldn’t have most of the modern day transportation, weapons ect. Imaignation will take you anywhere you wish to go.

9. evolution

The theory of evolution by natural selection was formulated by Charles Darwin, who was the first to recognise natural selection as an important cause of evolution. I have always been curious of how we came to be the way we are, from that tiny atom, to a full fledged being is truly extraordinary. Apparently according to some scientist we are still evolving because it depends on the environment that we live in. I wonder if way in the future that we will develop gills and webbed hands and feet so that we can swim in the waters of the ocean? or wings so that we will soar across the skies? who knows?

10. Super Heroes

I’ve always been curious if super heroes actualy exist? I’m a lover of comic books, specially Batman. This is because it goes to show that you dont need super powers to become a hero. I believe it’s because people need something, or someone to believe in. When all hope is lost and gone there rises a hero in us all, take Bruce Wayne for example. He lost both of his parents because some thug killed them but spared him, leaving Bruce to be in-charge of all of his family riches, and also Alfred the Butler. Though from the ashes, there rises the dark knight that is Batman. It gives us the will to do what is right, and not wrong, becoming idols/gods in the eyes of you and me.

  1. It’s unlikely we’d develop gills or wings, seen as we dont subject ourselves to the environments to evolve these traits. Evolution isnt a random thing, it will never one day bestow these traits on us. The human race wont evolve much more than it already has, sadly. There would be no need to. Our physiology is suited to our current lifestyle, and technology is invented to overcome any obstacle. Only if there was a catastrophic change in our lives that forced us to all migrate to new, technophobic environments would we be forced to adapt and bring back the survival of better suited. So until the nuclear apocalypse happens, were be suck as we are.
