Guitar Restoration

This is a guitar that I bought for £10 from my mate from uni.
I’ve had my eye on it for some time, and plus it gave me something to do during the holidays of 2010.

this is the guitar before hand I wasnt quite sure what to expect really, and I was actualy supprised when I saw that it is a fender squire strat!…though strange because I’ve already got a Squire but this guitar has one fret more. So I’m guessing that it must be an older version.

reviling the guitar underneath to find that it is to my supprise is a fender squire strat.

after about a good 4 hours managed to get most of the paint off with a guitar pick, and thinners ( only lightly with the thinners otherwise it will take off the varnish, and eat away the plastic, learnt from personal experience). Removed the machine heads, tremol block, strings, the plate which supports the guitar cable, the guitar strap holders, and the strings and chucked them in a jar of thinnners to remove more of the silver paint. Then removed the volume, and the two tone knobs and cleaned more with the thinners.

with help from my dad we created a custom whammy bar to fit into the tremol block from a old metal bar that come from one of the printers that we owned, then lathed the screw in end to fit the guitar.

Finaly after another good 10 hours work manage to clean all of the pick ups and all of the other fine intrequet pieces with some more thinners, cotton buds, and cocktail sticks. Also the tremol block is different, and is now slightly modified. Had to make the holes slightly bigger with dremol, and also had to cut some new threads where the whammy bar use to sit cause someone then tried to re-thread the hole where the whammy bar and didnt really succed, so thanks to the help of dad we had to re-tread it again to a bigger size so that it can fit the customised whammy bar that my dad made. Then refitted the machine heads, tremol block, the plate for the guitar cable, the guitar strap holders, the strings (I had to get 11 gauge strings in the end, cause the regular guitar strings didn’t fit in place properly) then cleaned the volume, and the two tone knobs and cleaned more with the thinners

it’s all in perfect condition now, and sounds like a Rose Floyd guitar, has a more richer and heavier sound than my other squire.
