The secrets of the Rubix Cube

I managed to loan a DSLR Camera from the uni till Monday. I was originally going to use the camera to take photos around the City Campus, however the lens that came with macro lens, and so I played around with my Rubix Cube just by taking a couple of pics of of the object on it’s own (granted that I’ve never used a DSLR before I dont think I’ve done too bad).

I then got another lens for it today to zoom further into my subject, and this produced some very interesting effects.

Then when I zoomed in further it came out with even more interesting results.

I shall use these as backgrounds for my poster/flyers.

Joseph Mallord William Turner

Turner was an English Romantic landscape painter, watercolourist and printmaker. Turner was considered a controversial figure in his day, but is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as “the painter of light” and his work is regarded as a Romantic preface to Impressionism.

Vincent Van Gogh

Also known as Vincent Willem van Gogh he was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold color, had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. I’ve loved his work ever since I first saw it in high school, and fascinated with his painting style, and also his usage of colours. Sadly however after years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, he died at the age of 37 from a gunshot wound, generally accepted to be self-inflicted. His work was then known to only a handful of people and appreciated by fewer still.

There is also a song that relates to the works of Vincent Van Gogh, it is sung by Don McLean’s called “Starry Starry Night”.

Le Ballon Rouge (the Red Balloon)

The Red Balloon is a 1956 fantasy short film directed by Albert Lamorisse, I watched this film in one of the lessons during my Graphic Design course and it has captivated me ever since. I love the contrast of how monochromatic the environment is in the beginning, then when boy finds the balloon it brings the colour, fun, and life into the film.

It is a thirty-four minute short film that follows the adventures of a young boy who one day finds a sentient, mute, red balloon; this was filmed in the Ménilmontant neighborhood of Paris, France. This film was awarded the Golden Palm at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival, and French Cinema’s Golden Medal the same year.

There are many similarities between this film and some adverts, such as the Sony Bravia Bouncy Ball Advert.

Sony drops over 170,000 multi-coloured bouncy balls down the streets of San Francisco to film a commercial for their line of Bravia televisions.
